Maybe ‘nobody’s perfect’, as one character in this masterpiece suggests. But some movies are perfect, and Some Like It Hot is one of them and we are proud to bring it to you in a glorious remastered format as our season finale.
In Chicago during the Prohibition era two musicians, Joe and Jerry (Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon) inadvertently witness the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. In order to escape the wrath of gangland chief Spats Colombo (George Raft) they’re desperate to get a gig out of town but the only job they know of is in an all-girl band heading to Florida. They show up at the train station as Josephine and Daphne, the replacement saxophone and bass players. They certainly enjoy being around the girls, especially Sugar Kane who sings and plays the ukulele (Marilyn Monroe). Joe in particular sets out to woo her while Jerry/Daphne is wooed by a millionaire, Osgood Fielding III. Mayhem ensues as the two men try to keep their true identities hidden and Spats Colombo and his crew show up for a meeting with several other crime lords.
Produced, directed and written by Billy Wilder, Some Like It Hot, received six Academy award nominations and is considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. Whilst the film has been shown many times on the TV over the years, now is a rare opportunity to see it on the big screen as intended.
Some Like It Hot is so delightfully fizzy and a perfect end to a great season!
